Consistent

A much better week this week, running-wise that is. Helped by a holiday on Monday which saw a 6k run (not the planned long run as we decided to also go for a bush walk/poke around up in the bush). Then Wednesday should have been speed work but my left calf was quite sore so I decided on an easy 8k run (not that easy with one half of killer hill to contend with).

Yesterday I finally did a long run, clocking up 14ks, which is my longest run this year. It felt good to get up in the bush again and there was no traffic at all so it was very peaceful. The time was slow - 1.37.19, with a big positive split (the first half took 47.05) but the second half includes killer hill and yesterday it felt at times as though I was running on the spot. That kilometre took nearly 10 minutes (possibly a PW) but who cares? I did it and I enjoyed it. My average heart rate for the run was 157 which shows that I took it easy (it's usually up in the 160s on my shorter runs). Apart from some chaffing I feel fine today with only a slight ache in the left calf when I walked Pip.

THis week
Run: 27km
Walk: 15.5
Total: 40.5
Year Total: 450.6*

* Am under my target at the moment, if I want to run and walk 2008 in 2008, but this should pick up as I start to run longer over the next few months.

Life Begins

at forty doesn't it?

Not sure about that but my life has been pretty crazily busy since then. I've had the last two weekends away (including going to Sydney on my own to see Billy Elliot with my sister) and have had something on every afternoon, after work, this week. Ah, it is bliss to stay home over Easter and today I am going nowhere.

Unfortunately my running has suffered this week with the hectic schedule. It is too dark to run in the mornings at the moment. I managed to get out for a decent 6ks on Monday afternoon. This was a good run as it included a 4.51 (I think that's a 1k PB) and my legs felt really strong. Yesterday was in complete contrast; the legs felt heavy, my feet felt sore and my achilles was whining. Plus it was quite humid. But I did it! Only 7ks. I was tempted to run up the aptly named trail but ran out of time waiting for a thunderstorm to disappear, plus we has 2 extras for a sleepover so I thought I'd better not go for too long.

The plan is to do a long run on Monday, probably 13ks again. Then try to get back into some consistent running this week which should be a lot easier.

Tick, tick, tick

Time sure flies doesn't it? Have been meaning to blog but things seem to have been hectic around here lately. I have been finding time to run, of course. Had another good 13k run last weekend - faster than the last one and much less humid.

Yesterday was a speed session so I decided to do a 5k time trial. I felt heavy and not really comfortable fr the whole run, in short it just felt hard. But, I managed it in 29.09 which is a good time (for me) and included about 600m of walking (total) for warming up and cooling down. I even managed a 4.57km!!

We are off to Glenn Innes for the weekend for my birthday. We will be doing lots of fossicking for gems, but I don't think I will be getting in a long run somehow. Will need to update my profile when I get back as its a big one. Had a b'day morning tea at work and many colleagues couldn't believe I was that old!
